If you’re feeling stuck or lost about your writing, which is how writers tend to feel a good 98% of the time, the one thing I would truly recommend is changing your perspective.
Lie underneath your bed for a few minutes, gazing at the details of your bedspring. If that doesn’t appeal to you, sit in your closet for a bit. Don’t leave until you get some good ideas.
Stick your head in your refrigerator or lie sideways in some grass. Stand on your dining room table; swim in your five by two tub.
Looking at things differently changes you. You leave fresher, newer, with a suitcase of bright, clean ideas to work with.
So go on, go outside. Climb a tree or crawl under a bench. Take things in, and then write them out.
